Introduction

Hello everyone!

My name is Presley, and if you couldn’t tell already by my introduction, I’m not a native Texan (yes, I am stereotyping the use of the word y’all). I was born in Beverly Hills, where I had all the potential in the world of being a child star, until that opportunity was shattered by an earthquake. Literally…and that’s when my parents moved our family to Colorado, where I grew up from the young age of three until I graduated high school and headed south.

I’m often faced with the question, “So how did you end up HERE, at Texas State?” as if Texas is some foreign country (let me remind you the flight here is less than two hours, totally painless). The simple answer would be that this is obviously where I want to be. Also, my family history is strongly rooted in Texas. Both of my parents grew up in Texas, and much of our immediate family is still living here. Texas has always been a second home to me.

My mother also attended Texas State back in the day, and is currently attempting to re-live her experiences here vicariously through me, which she gets a kick out of. The follow up question usually tends to be, “But isn’t out of state tuition expensive?” Yes it definitely is, but my parents are able to support my decision to come to Texas State because of one major reason: they only have one college career they’ll ever have to financially support, because I’m an only child.

If you’ve gotten this far, you probably have already assumed that my blog is about that very topic; I mean the title truly says it all. Throughout this blogging experience, I will be exploring the life of the “lonely only”, which is what I refer to myself as when my friends start to talk about their siblings. It’s much more of a sarcastic phrase, and even somewhat of an attention getter (sometimes I can be a bit of a drama queen), as my life is really far from lonely. So, to my fellow only children: I’m sure you’ll be able to relate to many of my posts, unless I’m a strange case of only child or something weird. And to those of you with a house full of siblings: this will give you a little insight to the question that’s probably loomed in your head at least once, “What would life be like as an only child?” Well, get excited because you’re about to find out the pros, the cons, and everything in between in the life of being an only child. It may not seem like an exhilarating or even somewhat interesting topic, but don’t be too hasty to judge this book by it’s cover.  And let me ease your first worry by saying this blog will not be a total biographical endeavor, because honestly who wants to read the life story of some unknown only child? Hope you enjoy and learn something new!
